NEKTU Steelhead Encounter at Willoughby Falls

NEKTU Steelhead Encounter at Willoughby Falls

Unique to our area of the Northeast Kingdom are the dual runs of Steelhead and Salmon that leave Lake Memphremagog each spring and return to their seasonal spawning grounds in the Willoughby River. Once a year, visitors gather on the stream banks in Orleans for a chance to marvel at an extraordinary fish that can jump UP the rushing falls. This annual phenomenon in Willoughby River is a wonder of the natural world and a treasure for the state of Vermont.
𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗨𝗡!
As willing participants in the stewardship of these waters, Northeast Kingdom Trout Unlimited (NEKTU) will be at Willoughby Falls welcoming the public with information about the unique strain of rainbow trout and the story behind their journey. Bring the family for some fun kids activities, discussion on local fishing heritage and an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the famous jumping fish!
𝗡𝗘𝗞𝗧𝗨 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀!
From native brook trout streams to prized brown trout lakes, Northeast Kingdom Trout Unlimited is a volunteer group working to build partnerships with landowners, educate the public about water stewardship, and implement restoration projects for fisheries that dot Caledonia, Orleans, and Essex counties. If you’re an avid angler or interested in the preservation of Vermonts beautiful rivers and streams, you’re with us! Ask us about how you can join NEKTU and help protect the healthy fish populations that benefit our ecosystem and angling community alike.
