What are the kids favorite activities in Newport?
The oldest is 4 and on the move, so any time we can spend at the beaches and playground at Prouty Beach is a welcome treat. They can swing, climb, play in the sand and splash around in the water. As an added benefit, Kayla gets time outside in the sun and fresh air. They also enjoy strolling down the lakeside boardwalk. Stroller time naps are good for everyone.
Where is the best place to get the kids treats?
Hands down Tim and Doug’s. We get in line with our friends and neighbors for ice cream cones and other delicious frozen treats. We also can find good snacks and healthy foods at Newport Naturals.
What’s your favorite family shopping experience in Newport?
The Pick n Shovel has everything my family needs from clothes to housewares and appliances. A family friendly store where we can shop for for a washing machine and the kids love finding their latest must have toys.
What’s Newport’s best kept secret?
I won’t divulge the exact whereabouts but there is a spot on the bike path that has a little trail down to a small beach. It’s very private and a great place to picnic with my family. Newport has all kinds of hidden treasures, you just have to come and spend some time exploring.
What memory would you like your kids to have about their time in Newport?
I hope they always remember our walks outside and having picnics together. And when they are old enough we’ll enjoy more rigorous activities like skating and sledding.
