biking in newport

Have fun spinning your wheels.

It’s a beautiful ride along the shore of Lake Memphremagog. The Newport Waterfront Rec Path connects over seven miles of multi-use trails and paths along the eastern shoreline of the lake, along one of Vermont’s Rail Trails, all the way to our shared border with Quebec! Adventure and another world awaits, accessible by bicycle from Newport.

Newport is committed to being a prime destination for bicycle tourism in new England, a premier gravel riding access point, and an aspiring Bicycle Friendly Community. We are working to build world-class bicycle facilities, like the bridge over Scott’s Cove that connects Prouty Beach to the Vermont Land Trust’s Bluffside Farm. And by supporting a robust program of bicycle events, like the Kingdom Games and the extensive series of educational and encouragement events we have planned for Summer 2024. Hop on your bike and join us!

Bike Newport – Events 2024

Join us for the upcoming bicycle education and encouragement events. All activities are FREE and open to the public. There is something for everyone: children, seniors, people with special needs, and folks who are wishing to get back on a bike. Does your bike need some TLC?

Come to the Open Shop Night to get it fired up again and learn a few tips for taking care of it on your own.

Feeling tentative about bicycling on our roads? Check out one of our safe cycling classes: Women & Bicycling 101, Commuter 101, or Seniors & Cycling 101. Need help getting back on the bike? Join the Ride Again workshop to take those baby steps with the assistance of a certified safe cycling instructor.

Need some motivation? Set a mileage goal during the National Bike Challenge (sign up at: www.lovetoride.org & join the Bicycle Friendly Newport club)

Or register for our local mini series: BACK ON THE BIKE – Attend 2 workshops, register for the National Bike Challenge & join a group ride. And earn cycling gear prizes! Register at EventBrite.

The Bike Path in Newport City

The Newport Waterfront Recreation Path connects over seven miles of multi-use trails and paths along the eastern shoreline of the lake. The Path begins at the City Docks downtown and passes through Pomerleau Park, the Waterfront Plaza and along Gardner Park, to Prouty Beach. At Prouty, you travel along the water and over the Scott’s Cove bridge into the Bluffside Farm. From there, you can jump on the Beebe Spur Rail Trail and bike your way to the Canadian Border and beyond.
